Protecting workers in Pharmacy Industry Award Review

The SDA works hard to negotiate fair wage increases and working conditions on your behalf, that’s our core business.

The Pharmacy Industry Award outlines the working conditions for a number of pharmacy retail workers, including their rate of pay and entitlements.

The Pharmacy Industry Award is currently being reviewed by the Fair Work Commission, this happens every four years and the SDA is actively pushing for changes and improvements to the Award.

However, employer lobby groups can also make submissions to the Review – and they’re calling for penalty rates to be reduced.

The SDA is fighting to protect your rights at work in our submission to the Fair Work Commission on a number of workplace issues, including:

  • Protecting penalty rates
  • Ensuring your wages go up
  • Fair pay and conditions for younger workers
  • Maintaining your existing entitlements from overtime to meal breaks

It is also very important that the Fair Work Commission receives direct examples from the shop floor about what matters to you at work to support our push, especially in relation to the importance of penalty rates.

The SDA wants to hear from any member who is covered by the Pharmacy Industry Award and receives penalty rates who would like to provide examples about their working life to help our submission by calling 8139 1000.

We will keep you informed about the outcomes the Pharmacy Industry Award Review as it progresses.
