Lockdown pay for essential workers If a full lockdown does occur, we know that many retail workers – including those at supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and convenience stores – will be deemed essential.
If this happens, we believe you should be appropriately rewarded for continuing to work in these circumstances.
That’s why we’re calling for a $5 per hour increase for all workers who are deemed essential.
Right to return to work
Many other areas of retail have seen a large decrease in demand. Workers have lost hours and many stores are starting to close.
While we welcome the Federal Government’s decision to increase and make more quickly available the job seeker payment, we think more could be done to protect your wages.
If stood down, we are also demanding that workers have the right to return to their previous jobs as soon as possible.
Retail Rescue Industry Package
At the same time, other retailers and workers are facing enormous pressure as a result of COVID-19 and that it is likely many workers will be stood down or will lose hours.
To combat this, the SDA and the Australian Retailers Association have called on the Federal Government to introduce a multi-billion dollar Retail Industry Rescue Package to protect the industry and your jobs.
It’s important to remember that in these difficult circumstances, we’re here with you every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call us on 81391000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for all of your incredible efforts and hard work so far.
