Easter Public Holidays: what you need to know

The Easter break is coming up followed shortly after by Anzac Day on Tuesday 25th April.

For the vast majority of retail and fast food members, work on public holidays is voluntary.

You can choose to spend it with family and friends or if you choose to work, you will receive public holiday penalty rates of between 200% and 250%.

The SDA believes public holidays are special occasions that should be enjoyed by everyone – and that no retail or fast food worker should be forced to work on these days. The SA Liberals have proposed trading hour deregulation that could put this at risk: you can help us stop retail workers from being forced to work on more public holidays here.

Your upcoming public holidays are:

Good Friday 14 April

Easter Saturday 15 April

Easter Monday 17 April

While Easter Sunday is not a public holiday in South Australia and the NT, many SDA Agreements have provisions in place that give members the choice to work or to take time off.

Please note Easter Sunday 16 April is a public holiday in Broken Hill.

If you would like specific information about your entitlements on these public holidays, contact the SDA on 8139 1000 to speak to one of our Case Managers.
