New Territory Part-Day Public Holidays on Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve in 2016!

In breaking news, today the new Labor Territory Government declared Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve part-day public holidays in 2016. Click here to show your support now.

From 7pm Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will be official public holidays and as such public holiday provisions will apply.

This means, for the vast majority of SDA members:

  • Work after 7pm on Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve will be voluntary, so you can take the night off to spend with family and friends
  • Employees who are rostered on and choose to work will receive appropriate public holiday penalty rates

This is a fantastic win for Territory workers.

We know that time off over the festive season is important to you and your family. Everyone deserves the opportunity to take time off every now and then.

That’s why the SDA works hard to protect your public holidays. Now, workers will be able to enjoy these special occasions just like everyone else or if they choose to work, will be paid fairly.

We will now be campaigning for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to be changed in legislation to become part-day public holidays so this continues in the future.

Tell us why public holidays are important to you here. Sign up to support the campaign for your chance to go into the draw to win one of five $50 Gift Vouchers from Woolworths or Coles.

Part-day public holidays on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve were introduced in South Australia in 2012.
