Bob Day joins Liberal Senators to cut retirement savings of South Australian workers

SA Liberal Senators and Senator Bob Day have joined forces to rip thousands of dollars from the retirement savings of retail workers.

SDA Secretary Peter Malinauskas says this disgraceful attack on superannuation is going to take away $20,000 from the average retirement savings of workers.

“The South Australian Liberal Senators and Senator Bob Day decision to freeze any increase to superannuation until 2021 is going to hurt retail workers when they retire.

“This is not just a couple of dollars here or there, this is $20,000 from workers who rely on that money for their retirement.

“It is extremely alarming that South Australian Liberal Senators and Senator Day have taken thousands of dollars from workers and destroyed any sense of security for a decent retirement.

“The Liberals and Senator Day claim they want retirees to be more self-dependent but at the same time are actively cutting superannuation for workers.

“The Liberals want to abolish penalty rates for retail workers, Senator Day wants to get rid of the minimum wage for young workers and now they’re acting together to cut the retirement savings of millions of Australian workers.

“What are they going to take away from workers next?

“They are not representing the interests of South Australians they are taking away their rights at work and their ability to have a decent and sustainable retirement.

“The agenda of the Abbott Government and Senator Day is now clear – they have chosen to reward big mining companies at the expense of hard working Australians and their retirement,” said Peter.
