Secretary Josh Peak has been with the SDA for over 10 years and has a wealth of experience as an Organiser, working with members to resolve workplace issues.
Josh started out in retail working at Foodland when he was 15, he joined the SDA when his employer forced him to sign an AWA.
He immediately recognised that AWAs were unfair to workers and stripped away their rights at work and fought back by joining the ACTU’s campaign to end WorkChoices.
Josh went on serve on the ACTU Executive from 2009-2015, making a national contribution to the union movement.
Josh is committed to standing up for your rights at work.
Assistant Secretary Sonia Romeo first started out in retail as a 14-year-old working at Foodland Newton in the service deli after school and during school holidays.
Even then her fellow workers would ask her for advice on work matters, a trend which continued when she joined the SDA full-time after finishing school. Her forte became conflict resolution in stores in metropolitan Adelaide and country South Australia, helping members who weren’t paid correctly or didn’t get breaks.
Making sure workers get a fair go and helping them realise they have workplace rights and entitlements is Sonia’s passion.
