Australia Needs a Pay Rise

In the next few months, the SDA and the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) will be fighting to win a fair and decent pay rise for workers at the Fair Work Commission’s Annual Wage Review.=

What’s the Annual Wage Review?

Each year, the Fair Work Commission reviews the minimum wage and decides how much it should increase by (if at all) based on the submissions it receives.

The FWC will hand down its decision in June 2019.

Why does it matter?

In 2019, this increase will apply to the Retail and Fast Food Awards and many SDA-negotiated Agreements including Coles and Woolworths.

Raising the minimum wage ensures that workers’ can keep up with the rising cost of living and helps curb growing inequality across Australia.

With wage growth at record lows and business profits soaring, the SDA and the ACTU will be presenting our strongest case yet and arguing for a significant increase to your pay.

Plus, as if that wasn’t bad enough, the Liberal Government allowed further cuts to our wages when they refused to stop cuts to penalty rates for hundreds of thousands of Australians.

In order to build our case, we need to hear from workers. The more examples we receive, the more likely it is that the Fair Work Commission will take our case seriously.

Tell us why your wages need to grow here.
