Unions push for universal domestic violence leave

SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEAVE

Domestic violence is a workplace issue.

Domestic Violence Leave is crucial to helping victims of domestic violence leave a violent or abusive relationship.

It provides employment and financial security to those experiencing domestic violence – ensuring they can take leave when they have to.

1 in 3 Australian women will experience domestic violence.

1.6 million Australian workers already have access to Domestic Violence Leave through union-negotiated Workplace Agreements.

But Domestic Violence Leave should be universal so all workers have the right to access leave when they’re experiencing domestic violence.

Unions are working together to have Domestic Violence Leave included in all Modern Awards. This will make Domestic Violence Leave universal for Australian workers.

The current claim in the Fair Work Commission:

The SDA has successfully negotiated Domestic Violence Leave Clauses in the following workplace agreements:
> Best & Less > Freedom > McDonald’s > Priceline > Sanity > Suzanne Grae

When we negotiate with employers, Domestic Violence Leave is now a standard item on Log of Claims as we continue to push for the leave to be included in all new Workplace Agreements.
